BROWN CO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Wisconsin’s April 2 election is fast approaching.
Since January, people across the country have been casting their ballots in spring primaries and caucuses. With many results already in, 2024 is shaping up to be a rematch of President Biden and former President Trump.
Despite this fact, Brown County’s Republican and Democratic parties say it’s still important to cast your ballot come April 2.
“This is the first chance for Republicans to really unite behind President Trump,” said Doug Reich, chairman of the Brown Co. Republican Party.
“This is the most important election of our lifetime, so the primary on April 2 is step one in that process,” said Democratic Party of Brown Co. Chair Christy Welch.
Wisconsin is one of 19 states that has yet to hold its spring primary or caucus.

“Usually, unfortunately, it’s unlikely that we’re going to play a significant role in deciding who the nominees are,” said Mark Graul, Republican strategist.
Graul says he doesn’t see anything wrong with the primary system. He adds he would like see Wisconsin’s presidential primary happen sooner in the year.
“We know Wisconsin is going to play a tremendous role in actually deciding who wins the general election in November, but we have no role, really, in deciding who the candidates are on either side. So, it would be nice to see maybe things move around a little bit so a state like Wisconsin could go earlier.”
What many people don’t realize is there’s more to the April election than just selecting your preference for presidential candidates.
Other items on the ballot include school referendum questions, school and county board races, as well as other non-partisan positions.
“These decisions that these elected individuals make, I think, effect more of the day-to-day of citizens than on the national level, so to speak,” said Outagamie Co. Clerk Jeff King.
There’s are also two statewide questions. One asks residents to decide whether private funds should be used in connection with any primary, election or referendum.
