GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Tax season is here! It can be a stressful time of year for many.
There are two ways people can lower their tax liability:
- If you’re eligible, contribute to a health savings account
- If you’re eligible, contribute to an IRA
Tips for filing your taxes:
- Have all your documents ready
- File early in case you owe
- Seek help if feeling stressed
Theresa Grover, a nationally recognized tax expert and an Accounting Instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, says a little change she’s noticing this year is that in order to receive the additional child tax credit for 2023, people should note that they must have earned income.
If you do receive money back after filing your taxes, she recommends using it to pay off any debts or open a CD to set money aside.
The IRS says the use of its free file system is up 9.7% over last year.
