GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s been 19 days since an Amber Alert was issued for 3-year-old Elijah Vue, who was last seen in Two Rivers.
Search efforts continue, but still no sign of the little boy.
For the first time, volunteers searched in the Green Bay area on Saturday.
They largely focused on the Baird Creek trails on the city’s east side. The group planned to also look at UW-Green Bay, but an organizer said the school told the group to stay only on the trails, so the decision was made to focus more on Baird Creek between Danz Elementary School and McAuliffe Park.
Law enforcement was not involved in organizing or taking part in the search.
About 50 people participated.
“Anywhere we can search is where we should search,” said Cassie Renkas, a Green Bay resident who is originally from Two Rivers. “Everywhere, every city should be searching at this point. He could be anywhere.”
Two Rivers Police have not posted any new updates on Saturday.
A Friday post on the department’s Facebook page reminds people to check surveillance footage from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on February 19th. Look for beige 1997 Nissan Altima with a license plate starting in A and ending in O.
Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, made her initial appearance in Manitowoc County court Thursday where Judge Robert Dewane denied her request for bond reduction. Prosecutors filed an additional neglecting a child charge and a chronic neglect of a child charge against her.
Vue was last seen by Jesse Vang at 8 a.m. on Feb. 20 in the 3900 block of Mishicot Road. On Feb. 12, Baur sent Vue to stay with Vang for “disciplinary reasons.” According to the criminal complaint, Vang said he was babysitting Vue at his Two Rivers home, but fell asleep. When he woke up around 11 a.m. on Feb. 20, he called police. An Amber Alert was subsequently issued.
Anyone who provides information leading to the discovery of Vue or the arrest and charging of the individual(s) responsible for his disappearance is eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
Vue is described as having dark blonde hair and brown eyes. He is about three feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has a birth mark on his left knee.
