Lavell Nance (Manitowoc Co. Jail)
MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The October 2022 death of a 3-year-old child remains under investigation, police say, as one adult connected to the case awaits trial on neglect charges, and another has been convicted of a drug count.
According to the probable cause statement, police went to Holy Family Memorial Medical Center on Oct. 6, 2022, for the death of a child. Police then obtained a search warrant for the residence of Catherine Carter and Lavell Nance. Multiple kinds of drugs were found. Nance identified the child as Christian Walker.
Nance was convicted of possession with intent to deliver designer drugs, and was sentenced to three years on probation. He was not charged in connection with the child’s condition, according to court records.
Carter is scheduled to stand trial April 3 on five counts, including three of child neglect. A request to postpone the trial has been filed, court records show.
Meanwhile, police continue to work on the death of the child.
“This is still an open and active case that we are investigating. Therefore, at this time unfortunately we cannot disclose further information in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” said Police Chief Nick Reimer.
