GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — For more than three decades, Bill “Waz” Waerzeggers has been walking through the doors of the Green Bay Blood Donation Center, taking a seat in a chair and holding out his arm. He did just that on Wednesday.
On his lap you’ll find a homemade quilt, patched together by different t-shirts he’s collected over the years from the many blood drives he’s participated in.
Waerzeggers, a resident of Green Bay, is something of a blood donor aficionado. He has made more than 700 donations and given 175 gallons of blood.
“Giving blood is easy for me,” Waerzeggers said. “It’s a product that can’t be manufactured anywhere else except the human body, so it’s a pleasure to come here and do this.”
One pint at a time, Waerzeggers is making a difference for people in need in the Green Bay community and beyond.
Waerzeggers acknowledged that giving blood isn’t for everyone, but he hopes he can inspire others to follow in his footsteps. “If I can encourage someone else to give blood, then let’s go out and do it.”
