APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton International Airport is gearing up for a busy spring break season.
March continues to be the busiest month at Appleton International Airport, and this year they’re expecting about 100 thousand passengers throughout the month; which is an 8.5% increase in travelers compared to March 2023.
“We have built ourselves as the faster, easier, more convenient airport,” said Jesse Funk, Air Service and Business Development Manager for Appleton International Airport. “The more travelers use our airport as opposed to driving two or three hours south, the more the airlines see that and they add seats, resulting in more non-stop flights from Appleton.”
Funk says sunny destinations continue to be the most popular places to travel during spring break, but that people use the holiday to travel all over the world from Appleton.
Allegiant Airlines offers a number of nonstop flights, including to popular destinations like Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada.
This year, the airport is also celebrating its newly added nonstop flights to New York City and Dallas/Forth Worth.
Other nonstop Allegiant flights that return in time for spring break and summer travel are:
- The Savannah/Hilton Head flight resumes March 7
- The Portland, Oregon flight resumes May 23, a full month earlier than in 2023
Additional nonstop routes now include:
- Phoenix/Mesa, Arizona
- Nashville, Tennessee
- Other flights to Florida include Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Sarasota/Bradenton, Ft. Meyers/Punta Gorda
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Charlotte, North Carolina, a route that was offered seasonally in 2023 will be year around in 2024
- Chicago, Illinois
- Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota
- Detroit, Michigan
- Denver, Colorado
Officials at Appleton airport are advising spring break travelers to prepare for larger crowds than normal due to the anticipated higher numbers of travelers. Some tips from the experts at Appleton International Airport:
- The week before Easter will be the busiest so if possible, fly in off-peak periods such as mid-week departure and arrival dates
- Download the airline app. It’s the most efficient way for the airline to communicate with you before and during your travel
- Use the Appleton Airport’s Express Park service. 2024 is the five-year anniversary of this service that allows travelers to drive right up the terminal, drop their keys off, and proceed right to check in. The valet option in Express Park is the same daily rate as long-term parking, but you get to drop your car at the front door of the airport and save time.
- Limit your luggage to carry on items and traveling as light as possible.
- If you’re planning for future travel, consider TSA PreCheck which takes the hassle out of going through airport security. PreCheck passengers have shorter security waits and use dedicated security lines. TSA PreCheck requires a $78 fee but requires preregistration and is available at the Appleton Airport.
