William Munson (Brown Co. Jail)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A trial for the man accused of injuring one person in a Green Bay shooting last year has been delayed following his request for a new lawyer.
William Munson, 48, of Bellevue, pleaded not guilty to three charges from the June 2023 incident — first-degree reckless injury, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Witnesses said there was a fight and some yelling before a gunman fired multiple shots toward a group of people in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Main Street. A 22-year-old woman from Sobieski was wounded. Munson turned himself in to police nearly six weeks after the incident.
Judge John P. Zakowski set a Feb. 28 trial date, but at his final pre-trial hearing Feb. 2, Munson requested his attorney be withdrawn from the case. At a status hearing Thursday, Munson still did not have counsel due to an ongoing public defender shortage. Zakowski said 369 public defenders had been contacted to take his case.
The back-up trial date of April 3 was removed from the court calendar. Another status hearing is scheduled for March 19. Munson is being held at the Brown County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
