The Marquette Golden Eagles avenged one of their four conference losses by hammering the Providence Friars 91-69 at Fiserv Forum Wednesday night. The 5th ranked Golden Eagles took charge of the rematch right away, building a 24 point lead by halftime. Five players reached double figures for Marquette (22-6, 13-4) led by Kameron Jones with 17. David Joplin added 13. The win came with a cost however as reigning Big East Player of the Year Tyler Kolek had to leave the game in the first half after putting up 12 points. According to Head Coach Shaka Smart, Kolek suffered a strained oblique trying to make a pass. He sat out the rest of the contest and was tended to by the training staff. It’s not believed to be serious. Marquette will need him facing two ranked teams beginning with #12 Creighton on the road Saturday before a rematch with third ranked Connecticut at home next week.
