NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A scam caller is impersonating a sergeant with the Neenah Police Department, officials warned Wednesday.
According to a Facebook post, NPD has received several reports of a scammer using the name of Sergeant Clint Driscoll to call residents about a “legal matter.” The scammer requests a call back to (920) 307-3021 from an “unknown” number and attempts to convince them to provide money or information.
NPD offered these reminders to prevent yourself from falling victim to a scam like this one:
- Call us or your local jurisdiction if you’re in doubt
- Don’t give your personal or financial information in response to a request that you didn’t expect
- Don’t call a number they gave you or the number from your caller ID
- Resist the pressure to act immediately. Anyone who pressures you to pay or give them your personal information is a scammer.
- Never pay someone who insists that you can only pay with cryptocurrency, a wire transfer service like Western Union or MoneyGram, a payment app, or a gift card. And never deposit a check and send money back to someone.
- Stop and talk to someone you trust. Before you do anything else, tell someone — a friend, a family member, a neighbor — what happened. Talking about it could help you realize it’s a scam.
Other law enforcement agencies, including the Marinette County and Winnebago County sheriff’s offices have cautioned residents of similar scams.
“Again, call your local PD with any questions,” the post reads. “We’re here to help 24/7/365.”
