APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fire in a well was quickly put out Tuesday on Appleton’s southeast side.
Firefighters say flames coming from a well next to a home in the 2700 block of S. Lake Park Road were reported around 1 p.m.
It took about half an hour to put the fire out. No one was home and no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, firefighters discovered a buildup of naturally occurring gas — which is different from natural gas — inside the well. Utility crews were called to the scene to monitor and there is no danger to the public, the fire department says.
Firefighters did not say how the fire started, but reminded people to be cautious of their surroundings when working with open flames or sparking equipment.
