There’s never a good time for an injury but the Green Bay Phoenix got one at the worst time, in the midst of a Horizon League regular season title chase. Leading scorer Noah Reynolds went down at practice last week with a sprained ankle and he was sporting a walking boot watching both games this weekend. Entering their final two home games of the season, GB was just a half game behind Oakland for the Horizon League’s top spot, but they stumbled twice without Reynolds. On Friday night, Purdue Fort Wayne buried the Phoenix 85-59 and then on Sunday, Youngstown State knocked off GB 71-59 to drop the Phoenix into a tie for third place with only two games left on the schedule. Elijah Jones and Marcus Hall each had 12 for Green Bay but they couldn’t keep pace with the Penguins who moved past the Phoenix into second place. GB is now 17-12 on the year, 12-6 in conference play with two games left. The availability for Reynolds this week is iffy at best as Green Bay travels to Cleveland State on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season against in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday.
