The St. Norbert Green Knights are a win away from capturing no worse than a share of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season championship. St. Norbert hosted third place Benedictine Wednesday night at came through with a 72-60, hard fought victory. It took a couple of second half mini-runs to overcome shaky free throw shooting and build a double digit lead they wouldn’t relinquish. SNC was led by Carter Gebler and Connor Pyletski with 15 points while Garrett Grzesk added a dozen. Grzesk and Pyletski both doubled down on three point hoops midway through the second half to provide the cushion. They were needed as St. Norbert went an unsteady 17 of 32 from the free throw line. The win brings the Knights to 20-4 on the season, 15-2 in the NACC, sharing first with Wisconsin Lutheran. St. Norbert defeated Lutheran in their only matchup this year so if the Green Knights beat Marian on the road Saturday to wrap up the schedule, they’ll have no worse than a share of the title and earn the number one seed in the NACC conference tournament next week on their home floor.
The St. Norbert women will also be a part of the NACC tournament as they defeated Benedictine on the road 57-47. Taylor Thiry put 20 points as the Green Knight women made it 10 straight victories, improving to 16-9 on the year, 13-3 in conference play, holding down third place.
