(WTAQ-WLUK) — Authorities in Marinette County are alerting residents of a scam where callers pretend to be Sheriff’s Office employees.
In a Facebook post, officials said they have received reports of an individual calling residents and claiming to work for the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office. The caller then tells the residents “to call another number regarding confidential legal matters” which require immediate attention.
“This is a scam attempt and not something our office would call in regards to,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
If you receive a call and are unsure if it is a legitimate member of law enforcement trying to contact you, the Sheriff’s Office recommends you call them directly at (715) 732-7627 and ask to speak with an officer.
