APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s Fat Tuesday!
It’s the last day to revel in food and drinks before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. That’s a time of penitence and reflection for Christians.
Fat Tuesday in the U.S. is most closely associated with festivities in New Orleans with its Mardi Gras parades, king cakes and beads.
In the Midwest, bakeries are getting some sweet treats ready for the big day.
Simple Simon Bakery will have the famous paczki on the menu on Fat Tuesday.
Paczki, pronounced “pohnch-kee” in Polish, is a jelly or cream-filled pastry.
Simple Simon offers 11 different flavors; including strawberry, raspberry, cherry, blueberry, lemon, prune, apple, apricot, cheese, custard, and poppyseed.
Simple Simon will also have King Cakes available.
