APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A woman is hitting the pavement all over the Fox Valley on her 40th birthday for a good cause.
Ashley Rossmeissl, the STEM education director at the Atlas Science Center in Appleton, is running 40 miles Friday in honor of her 40th birthday.
“To celebrate my 40th birthday, I decided, along with a lot of my running friends, to run 40 miles in one day but when we run, we tend to try to run for a cause,” Rossmeissl said.
Money raised from the run will go toward the Atlas Science Center to buy supplies.
As of mid-day Friday, the cause has raised more than $5,200.
As a runner for 20 years, Rossmeissl says she’s ran a lot of marathons but she’s never ran this much in one day. It will be a personal record for her.
“This weather, actually we couldn’t ask for better weather, could have been 30 below like it was a few weeks ago, I trained during that just in case it was awful today. This is beautiful, so I’m out for four separate 10-mile runs, so we’ve got 20 done, we’re halfway there,” she said.

Donations for the cause will continue to be accepted through next week. You can donate online here.
The Atlas Science Center is a nonprofit, informal STEM education center that hosts a variety of science, technology, engineering and math workshops and programming for kids and adults.
