MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Marinette County has been added to a legislation that would provide state money to redevelop properties no longer used by Universities of Wisconsin campuses.
UW-Green Bay last month announced plans to suspend in-person classes at its two-year satellite campus in Marinette. That follows announcements of UW-Oshkosh ending in-person classes at its Fond du Lac campus, UW-Platteville closing its Richland Center campus and UW-Milwaukee closing its Washington County campus.
Counties own the buildings the two-year colleges used.
A bill would provide grants of up to $2 million for each of the counties affected. Marinette County was added to the bill this week.
Sen. Eric Wimberger, R-Green Bay, says the bill advanced out of committee Wednesday. The full Senate could take up the bill as soon as next week, Wimberger said.
