MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The home of the Manitowoc Ships is celebrating a major milestone.
Lincoln High School marked 100 years on Thursday.
The centennial birthday was recognized with cake for the students.
Lincoln High School principal, Micah Hoffman, says on Jan. 25, 1924, 950 students first walked through the doors of the school to attend classes.
“It’s an amazingly long time. Think about tradition, you know, these students’ grandparents, maybe great-grandparents, have passed through here. An opportunity to be a part of something that lasts a century is a rare occasion, especially in the United States where things aren’t necessarily as old as that quite typically,” Hoffman said.
The school held multiple events surrounding the anniversary.
It even hosted a celebration during Friday night’s basketball game, which holds historical significance. A basketball game was actually the first event Lincoln High School ever hosted on Jan. 16, 1924.
