MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The state Assembly passes a Republican-authored abortion bill the governor has pledged to veto.
Madison Democrat, Representative Lisa Subeck during Thursday’s lengthy floor debate says she feels comfort to know the governor will veto it.
“Women of this state are telling us; stay out of my bedroom. Stay out of my doctor’s office. Stay out of my womb. You have no business in there,” said Subeck.
Fall Creek Republican Representative Karen Hurd issued a challenge to Evers.
“I am not afraid to do the will of the people even if it goes against my own personal convictions,” said Hurd. “Is the governor of this great state also as brave to get the opinion of the people of this state?”
The bill calls for a binding statewide referendum on whether abortion care should be prohibited after 14 weeks of pregnancy. Hurd noted that there would be rape and incest exceptions.
