CALUMET COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) — In 2023, crashes involving aggressive driving were up 39% from 2022 in Calumet County.
Patrol Lieutenant Joe Tenor described what aggressive driving entails.
“Things like exceeding the speed limit, driving too fast for conditions, following the vehicle in front of them too close, and not passing legally on the left or the right,” said Tenor.
Aggressive driving tends to be more prevalent in the summer months when more cars are out on the roads.
Countywide in 2023 there were 40 total crashes, 2 fatalities, and 19 injured. In 2022 there were 29 total crashes, 1 fatality, and 13 injured from aggressive driving.
Tenor shared some advice for lowering numbers of aggressive driving related incidents.
“Slow down and take your time. By speeding you’re not really saving that much time, maybe a few seconds.” said Tenor. “And if you end up in a crash, it takes even longer to get to your destination and it’s a lot more of a headache.”
