GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new vending machine is dispensing excitement at a Green Bay elementary school.
A book vending machine, donated by the Brown County United Way, was delivered to Howe Elementary School Friday.
On their birthday, each student at Howe Elementary will receive a coin to pick a book from the vending machine.
Associate principal Molly Schueller says it’s a fun way to increase literacy and help students grow their home libraries.
“Every child that comes in here, to hear the book drop is exciting and they get to choose it, it’s their personal one, it’s a different format than just going to a library and just the pure excitement of that they get to take that book home is why we chose a vending machine to increase our engagement of reading and love for reading,” Schueller explained.
To keep the vending machine open and stocked with a variety of books for students to choose from, the school is accepting donations. You can contact Howe Elementary School to see how you can help.
