BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A member of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office’s K9 unit is battling what officials are calling “serious” medical issues.
In a Facebook post Tuesday evening, the Sheriff’s Office announced K9 Mattis “fell ill quite suddenly” over the weekend. He was taken to Madison, where he has been “receiving advanced medical care” in hopes to diagnose the issues and develop a treatment plan.
The post concluded with this message: “Hang in there Mattis, we’re all pulling for you buddy!!”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mattis and his handler, Deputy Nick Dennis, comprise one of Brown County’s six K9 teams. Mattis is a dual-purpose Belgian Malinois born in 2016 who specializes in patrol and narcotics detection.
