APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A suspect has been arrested for a Christmas Eve homicide in Appleton.
Elliot Campbell, 21, was arrested Saturday afternoon in Racine, according to the Appleton Police Department. He was brought to the Outagamie County Jail and is being referred on a count of first degree intentional homicide.
Police say Elijah Dodson, 22, was shot on the 100 block of S. Walnut Street at about 2 a.m. December 24th. Dodson was taken to an area hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.
“Investigators have been interviewing several different witnesses over the last few weeks, along with going through tons of evidence from that evening to just make sure we had everything comprehensively done to bring this case to a close,” said Lt. Meghan Cash of the Appleton Police Department.
Cash would not say whether there is any connection between Campbell and Dodson or what led to the shooting.
The Appleton Police Department says it would like to thank the community for its patience during the investigation.
“We continue to have increased patrols down there,” said Cash of Appleton’s downtown, where the shooting took place. “It’s been something we’ve always had a focus on here in Appleton, community policing as well as having that increased police presence down in the area.”
