OCONTO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) — Oconto County Public Health is lowering the price of radon tests to encourage Oconto County residents to test for radon gas in their homes.
Radon is a radioactive gas from the ground that can enter your home through tiny cracks in the foundation.
Radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths nationwide each year and approximately 962 of these deaths are in Wisconsin. Fortunately, this cause of lung cancer is largely preventable with testing.
The easy to use tests will be for sale at the discounted price of $5 per test. This sale will run through the entire month of January, which is National Radon Action Month.
Several Oconto County municipalities have partnered with Public Health and will sell the test kits at their locations though January. You can get a test kit at the following locations:
