Kyle Matsche (Shawano Co. Jail)
SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An Almon man prohibited from owing guns due to prior criminal convictions now faces more than 80 charges after police seized dozens of weapons and more than 1,300 pounds of ammunition from his Shawano County home.
Kyle Matsche, 34, is charged with 71 counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, seven counts of possessing a firearm silencer, two drug possession counts, and one disorderly conduct charge after police responded to his home Dec. 19. He is currently being held on a $750,000 cash bond. He returns to court Jan. 30 for a status conference, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, police responded to the home for a domestic disturbance. Matsche was arrested.
“When Officers detained the male party, they identified the firearms did not have serial numbers and appeared to have been made or put together in an attempt to ensure there was no paper trail or registration of purchases,” the complaint states.
Police were informed there were weapons in the home. After Matsche did not consent a search, a search warrant was obtained.
“In total 46 long guns, 23 handguns, 22 suppressors, body armor and ballistic helmet, 1,315 pounds of ammo and drug related items consistent with Fentanyl use were recovered from the residence which was reported to only be occupied by Kyle Matsche. This is in addition to the two firearms located in Kyle’s possession during the initial disturbance call,” the complaint states.
One witness told police Matsche builds guns as a hobby.
Matsche has prior convictions, including for possession of THC and bail jumping, for which he served a three-year prison term.
