OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Work to cleanout Oshkosh’s water intake pipe will not be done by the end of the year as hoped.
The 60” pipe into Lake Winnebago is the city’s source for drinking water, but the city estimates it is 50-75% blocked by sediment. The city received permission from the DNR to flush it out, and hoped to have work done before the turn of the calendar.
But the project is a bit behind schedule.
“Crews are still in the process of getting everything ready to clear the pipe. It’s now expected to be completed by January 7,” said Rachael Glaszcz, a spokesperson for the utility.
The project is expected to cost more than $1.5 million.
Oshkosh’s water treatment plant can typically process and distribute roughly 16 million gallons of clean water per day. Peak demand can reach as high as 12 million gallons a day.
