Abdullahi Ali PC: Fox 11 Online
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man accused of stabbing his father is now competent to stand trial, and the criminal case against him will resume.
Abdullahi Ali allegedly stabbed his father Feb. 22 at the Islamic Society of Wisconsin on Velp Ave. Others subdued Ali until police arrived. Ali faces several charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
His case has been on hold because Ali was deemed not competent to stand trial – meaning he could not understand the proceedings or assist in his own defense. After mental health treatment, however, Ali is now competent, court records show
No trial date was set. Ali, 22, returns to court Feb. 20 for a status conference.
The complaint states that the victim told police that he and his son, Ali, were at the doctor to treat Ali’s mental illness earlier in the day.
“The two went to the mosque to pray and while he was in the prayer room, Abdullahi attacked him from behind with a knife,” the complaint states.
