GREEN BAY, WI (WLUK) – 74-year-old Gary Platt has witnessed much of the Green Bay Packers’ storied history.
“I made some sacrifices to get here, but it was always well worth it,” said Platt, who is from Wisconsin Rapids.
On Sunday, December 17th, the Packers honored Platt, who attended his 500th game at Lambeau Field.
“500 is a huge milestone I mean, you add it up that’s a lot of games and a lot of seasons,” said Packers Director of Public Affairs, Aaron Popkey.
The Packers awarded Platt with a commemorative football to mark the impressive milestone, as well as tickets inside one of the suites for the game.
“Some of my friends reached out to them, you know, and the Packers responded really well,” said Platt.
Platt says it’s difficult to narrow down his favorite Packers game.
One of the most memorable includes the Ice Bowl, when he was 18 years old.
“A lot of the Cowboys fans came here not prepared for the weather,” said Platt.
As for his favorite memory at Lambeau Field, it’s tailgating outside the stadium with his father.
“I look up and on the top was my dad and a couple of his buddies, having a drink and looking down and smiling. My dad worked really really hard, had a tough life. And that was so cool to see him smiling.”
When it comes to the new era for Green Bay, Platt is pleasantly surprised the team is in the playoff hunt.
“With all the injuries we have and things like that I think, I think we have a good base right now.”.
Platt has seen plenty of changes to Lambeau Field and the Packers franchise over the years, but there’s one thing that’s remained the same.
“It’s the loyalty from the fans.”
“He’s just a great illustration of what makes Packers fans so special,” said Popkey.
