APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A collaboration between a museum and a university is set to redefine downtown Appleton’s skyline, thanks to a $10 million gift.
The Trout Museum of Art and Lawrence University released a rendering of its state-of-the-art facility to be built on the west edge of campus at the intersection of College Avenue and Drew Street.
The 100,000 square-foot, four-story, building will be jointly owned by the Trout Museum of Art and Lawrence, with the museum owning the 30,000-square-foot ground floor.
The museum will feature large open gallery space, a covered Sculpture Courtyard, café, museum store and classrooms.
Lawrence says the second floor will feature state-of-the-art academic spaces and the upper floors will be market-rate apartments, space that could one day be converted to student housing to meet future needs.
The project is funded by a $10 million gift from a Lawrence University alum and spouse. The donors have asked to remain anonymous. It’s the third-largest donation in Lawrence University history.
Construction is expected to begin soon with the project to be complete by September 2025.
The project will be Lawrence University’s first new major building project since construction of Warch Campus Center in 2009.
