GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A 45-year-old man has been arrested following a suspicious death on the west side of Green Bay.
Police were first called to the incident Saturday, November 9th, around 6:30 p.m.
A 30-year-old man died.
Rodney Van Rite lives near the scene, and says his wife heard arguing sometime after 5:30 p.m.
“There was yelling and screaming and ‘no no no’, then somebody was like crying for a while I guess.”
Van Rite adds that they did not hear any gunshots.
On Sunday, one day after the incident, the scene was still surrounded by crime tape. Police were also still on scene.
Green Bay Police have not named the victim, or the suspect.
However, jail records show a 45-year-old man was booked on Sunday for 1st degree Reckless Homicide.
According to Brown County records, that same man is the one who owns the home where the incident happened.
Van Rite tells FOX 11 he believes the homeowner suffers from mental illness.
“I was personally told by a Green Bay patrol officer that he was Schizophrenic and they thought he was off his meds.”
Court records also show the homeowner is facing charges filed in October for disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing on officer.
He posted a $300 cash bond.
Van Rite acknowledges he’s aware of incidents at the home in the past.
“There was some brick throwing that went on earlier this summer, throwing of wrenches, throwing of other things.”
As of Sunday, no formal charges have been filed in the incident.
On Sunday, police said they are interviewing witnesses, and do not believe the community is in any danger.
Police added that more information would be released soon.
