The Wisconsin Badgers got steamrolled by the Providence Friars in the Gavitt Games matchup in Rhode Island Tuesday night. Providence had little trouble winning 72-59 against the sluggish and cold shooting Badgers. Wisconsin hit just 8 of 32 shots (25%) in the first half and trailed by 16 at the break. The Friar lead swelled to as many as 25 before Wisconsin put on a too little, too late run at the end. The Badgers finished the game at 33.9% from the floor while Providence wound up making 58.5% of their shots. A.J. Storr led Wisconsin with 22, John Blackwell was the only other player in double figures with 11. Wisconsin drops to 1-2 on the season and will return home Friday night to host Robert Morris at the Kohl Center.
Back in Madison, the Wisconsin women defeated South Dakota State 66-64. Brook Schramek converted a layup with 0.8 remaining as the Badger women took down an NCAA team from a year ago helping them to a 3-0 start, their best in over a decade.
