GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay Packers player helped some elementary students see the importance of eyecare.
Shopko Optical partnered with Howe Elementary Community school to host an eye exam event Tuesday.
Students in need received free eye exams and glasses for those with vision issues.
It’s part of Shopko Optical’s Kids In Focus Program.
Jennifer Nobui, CMO of Shopko Optical, says her organization believes everyone should have access to eyecare.
“It’s very important that students get their eyes checked; 80% of learning happens through vision and we do find that a lot of education and behavioral issues can be a result of vision issues. So it’s critical to education that students are able to see in the classroom, not only to learn but to be able to participate fully with their classmates and be a natural part of their classroom,” she said.
The school also held an assembly with Packers linebacker, Rashan Gary. Gary, who wears glasses, shared his inspiring story with students on overcoming vision problems and dyslexia.
