ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Cooler temperatures mean it’s time to turn on the heater in northeast Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Public Service has advice on how to heat your home safely and energy efficiency tips.
Furnaces should be inspected by an HVAC professional, filters changed regularly, and carbon monoxide detectors installed.
Experts recommend lowering the thermostat when asleep or away and share everyday tips such as, “…making sure that you switch those fan blades so that they spin clockwise. It actually takes the warm air that’s going to rise, naturally, and it’ll push it back down towards the ground. Set it on the low setting, that’ll help it redistribute that heat around your room, again, help it feel a little bit warmer so you don’t have to go to your thermostat and make an adjustment,” said Matthew Cullen, a Specialist with WEC Energy Group.
Caulk, weather stripping, or window film kits can be used to seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors.
Experts also recommend lowering thermostats when asleep or away, naturally warming your space during the day by opening any window coverings, and using ceiling fans for circulation.
Additionally, smart or programmable thermostats may help to heat your home efficiently.
