FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fond du Lac firefighters are stressing the importance of working smoke alarms and practicing a home fire escape plan after two kids safely evacuated from an early morning house fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to a home at 130 W. Division Street around 2:47 a.m. Monday for a report of a fire noted on a camera system.
Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the kitchen area.
The fire was put out quickly but not before it caused extensive damage.
Firefighters rescued three dogs and a bunny from the home. Two of the dogs were unconscious prior to being resuscitated with pet rescue oxygen masks.
Working smoke alarms alerted one of the two children who were asleep upstairs. That child woke their sibling up and the kids used a fire escape ladder to get out the second story window because smoke was too intense to go down the interior stairs.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
