FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s K9 deputy that was critically wounded in the line of duty is healing nicely, officials say.
K9 deputy Iro continues to heal at home with his handler after he was seriously wounded Oct. 14 during an exchange of gunfire between authorities and 33-year-old Kyle Massie, who was fatally shot.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, the sheriff’s office provided an update on Iro’s condition:
Wounds are healing nicely, many of the staples have been removed, and he continues to get stronger every day. He’s also enjoying many of the gifts people have sent him during his recovery, as is shown here where Iro is resting on one of his new blankets. We’ll continue to share periodic updates in the future, and thank everyone for their continued concern and support!
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous inquiries about how to donate to the K9 program to help cover the cost of medical bills, follow up services and to support other K9 teams, which are 100% donor funded.
