GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich presented his proposed 2024 Budget on Thursday night at Titletown Brewing Co.
The proposed budget would be $132 million; up $8.5 million from the 2023 budget.
Genrich’s proposed 2024 mill rate is $7.77 per $1,000 of property value. This year’s mill rate is $7.58 per $1,000.
25% of budget expenditures would go to the police department, and 20% would go to the fire department. 45.8% of the budget would be spent on salaries within the City of Green Bay. The budget also accounts for increased pay for city employees.
There are a few new job positions included in the 2024 budget proposal; including sergeants for K9 and traffic units, and an inspector for short term rental properties in the area.
At Thursday’s presentation, Genrich noted something positive contributing to the budget.
“I want to emphasize the increased level of shared revenue that’s being sent back to local governments here in the State of Wisconsin. We received a 20% increase [$3.1 million] thanks to our governor and our legislature. That was a line item that was near stagnant for a couple of decades so it’s nice to see some growth there. That will be tied to increases in sales tax revenue going forward,” said Genrich.
The budget isn’t finalized yet; city council will take a vote on the budget next month.
