MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Flags throughout Wisconsin will fly at half-staff Saturday in remembrance of former State Rep. John Klenke, who died two weeks ago at age 65.
Gov. Tony Evers announced the signing of Executive Order #215 Wednesday. It directs flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
Representative Klenke is remembered for his conviction, generosity, and dedication to serving his community,” said Gov. Evers in a news release. “In the wake of his passing, Kathy and I send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time.
Born and raised in Green Bay, former Rep. Klenke graduated with degrees from both UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.
He spent more than two decades working at Schneider National before being elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2010, representing the 88th Assembly District.
Klenke served on the Joint Committee on Finance and as vice-chairperson of the Energy and Utilities Committee. He won re-election in 2012 but did not seek another term in 2014.
Funeral services are to be held Thursday, with his burial to follow Saturday.
