CLINTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Community members gathered Thursday to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Clintonville’s new elementary school — a building that was previously the middle school.
This project ties the knot on the second and final phase of a $37 million referendum passed in Nov. 2020.
“We must really thank the people of the district who voted to allow us to begin the next strides for the next generation,” said Ben Huber, president of the Clintonville Public School District Board of Education.
“This building served some of us as a high school, it served some of the next generations as a middle school and now it will serve the following generations as the new elementary school.”
4K through fifth-grade students have been enjoying the new building since it opened last month for the start of the 2023-24 school year. Administrators say the new school is even more equipped to support students at every stage of their early academic development.
“To have a new building — actually two new buildings, with our middle school — it just really shows how much the community cares about the district,” said Matthew Hanson, associate principal at Clintonville Elementary School.
“They [the voters] took care of us, and now we’re going to take care of their kids and make sure that we’re building the leaders of tomorrow.”
Features of the newly-renovated elementary building include:
Centrally-located lunchroom
Two playgrounds – one for 4K and kindergarten, another for the rest of the grades
“Top notch” security system
New gymnasium
New library with new furniture and technology
Sensory room to help take care of students’ social and emotional growth
Classrooms for each grade level located together in “communities”
Color-coded hallways to give students and classrooms a greater sense of identity and community pride
Phase one of the referendum project was headlined by the additions of a new middle school and an agricultural-science building at Clintonville High School in Sept. 2022. Tech ed and welding spaces were remodeled and an independent living classroom was created for students with special needs.
Additionally, a new fitness and weight room was built at the school’s recreation center in Oct. 2021.
