Kaukauna Police (WLUK)
KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The name of the Kaukauna police officer who shot and injured a man earlier this month has been released.
The officer was identified as Sgt. Michael Frank, a 25-year veteran of the force.
On Sept. 13, officers were called to a house in the 500 block of Diedrich Street. They believed a man and a juvenile runaway may have been on the way to the house in a stolen vehicle.
Officers found the vehicle near the intersection of Joyce and Diedrich streets and tried to make contact with those inside. During the encounter, Frank shot the driver, a 28-year-old man from Oshkosh. The man was taken to the hospital.
Appleton police have been called in to investigate. They will forward the results of their investigation to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office to decide whether Frank was justified in the shooting of whether he should face criminal charges.
Frank was placed on administrative leave until the investigation can be completed.
Anyone with information is asked to call Appleton police at (920) 832-5500.
