GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Packers are teaming up with Bellin Health and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation for the seventh annual Packers vs. Cancer game this week.
Thursday night’s primetime showdown against the division-rival Detroit Lions will recognize individuals who have battled cancer and those who are currently fighting the disease.
Cancer survivors and their loved ones will be honored on the field during halftime and take part in a survival celebration, complete with a biodegradable balloon release.
Funds for cancer research and care will be raised, and information will be shared as how early cancer screenings can save lives.
Fans who enter all stadium gates will receive a Packers vs. Cancer wall flag.
Additionally, a new Packers vs. Cancer knit hat is available for purchase at the Packers Pro Shop, both in-store and online. $5 from each hat sale will go directly to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.
Now through Oct. 16, customers can also donate to the Foundation by adding $1 or more to any purchase made at the Packers Pro Shop.
Another special aspect about Thursday’s game is unique lighting elements the Packers are implementing during player introductions to enhance pregame festivities.
After the stadium’s lights are completely turned off and the pre-intro video plays, spotlights and flashing lights will be employed while the team is introduced.
Fans are advised to be in their seats by 7 p.m. to ensure they don’t miss the player introductions and lighting elements.
Fireworks will be set off from the stadium roof one hour before kickoff to remind fans to start heading into Lambeau Field.
