GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Another summer staple is coming to a close. Wednesday night will be the last Green Bay Farmers’ Market on Broadway of the 20th season.
A cake cutting, as well as a proclamation reading from the mayor and other speeches are expected for Wednesday’s market; which will run from 3-7 p.m. on Broadway.
Numbers of attendees this season surpassed previous seasons; bringing in 10-15 thousand people each week.
Reflecting on the 20th season, executive director of On Broadway, Brian Johnson, says the Mini Bosses pilot program was one of the season’s big successes.
“We started the Mini Boss program this year, and it was a tremendous success. We were kind of unprepared for it,” said Johnson. “We’re definitely interested in doing this bigger and better next year, because we want to help cultivate that next generation of entrepreneurship.”
Planning for the Farmers Market on Broadway is a year-round process; and it’ll soon be time for vendors to apply for the 2024 season.
“Applications open in January, but a lot of times folks will reach out to us long after the application window is closed,” said Johnson. ‘They’re like ‘Hey, the market is coming up soon and I’d like to be a part of it,’ but unfortunately we’ve already made those decisions because there’s so much planning that we have to make decisions early.”
This season featured over 110 vendors. The Green Bay Farmers Market on Broadway is the 2nd largest farmers market in the state of Wisconsin.
