GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Children’s Museum of Green Bay has unveiled a major expansion project that will add four new exhibits and double its service capacity.
During its “Night at the Museum: The Future of Manufacturing” event on Thursday, organizers detailed how one proposed exhibit will tie together children’s play, STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and local industries.
A sign on display at the event describes how this exhibit would feature the pulp, paper, packaging, print and plastic industries that are the “pillars” of the Green Bay community.
Will Robinson, a board member and co-chair for the museum’s expansion, said the goal of the project is “getting people interested, getting young kids interested in STEM, to hopefully stay close by and go in that direction for a career down the road.”
Although the project is still in its preliminary stages, Robinson said the museum is looking to have the expansion completed by 2025.
He hopes the expansion will help to “turn this part of Green Bay into a Midwest destination, and not just another children’s museum.”
In 2019, the museum moved from its downtown Green Bay location where expansion was not possible to a new space directly across the street from Bay Beach Amusement Park.
“We’re just really excited to add another part to this gem,” said Robinson. “It’s set up for an explosive opportunity to add really cool programming and really cool exhibits to the Green Bay community.”
