GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month now through October 15.
On Friday morning, Mayor Eric Genrich read the official proclamation.
“Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the rich culture and history of our Hispanic neighbors locally and nationally, and recognizes their contribution to business, the arts, education, agriculture, and to our society as a whole,” said Genrich.
The Hispanic population is the fastest growing population in the Green Bay area, and a Hispanic Advisory Council for the city has been formed.
“We have about 20 members of leaders of the Latino community who will meet four times a year to discuss all types of things,” said Amaad Rivera-Wagner, City of Green Bay Chief of Staff. “From business engagement, policing and community engagement, making city hall multi-lingual, and making sure that we are celebrating and communicating the policies, practices, and opportunities that we have here.”
This is the first time Green Bay has officially celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month.
