KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Kaukauna police say the search for a juvenile runaway led to an officer shooting and injuring a man.
Just after 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to an address in the 500 block of Diedrich Street Wednesday to find a juvenile runaway who was possibly on the way to that location in a stolen vehicle.
The runaway was reported to possibly be with an unknown male.
When officers arrived at the location and attempted to make contact with the occupants inside the vehicle, an officer discharged their firearm, striking the male driver of the vehicle.
Officers rendered medical aid and the 28-year-old Oshkosh man was taken to an area hospital. He is in stable condition.
The Appleton Police Department will conduct an investigation into the matter. Officials are gathering evidence and conducting interviews to determine the facts and circumstances that led up to the shooting.
The officer involved is placed on administrative leave per the Kaukauna Police Department policy until the investigation can be completed.
