FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fire damaged a Fond du Lac home early Monday morning. No people were injured, although one dog received medical treatment and another is unaccounted for.
The call came in at 1:42 a.m. for a home on N. Military Ave., according to Battalion Chief Benjamin Stephany.
“Upon arrival fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions showing from the breezeway of the single family residence. The fire quickly spread up the side of the house and made its way into the second floor and to the attic. Crews quickly started extinguishing the fire, but not before it caused extensive damage to the home. The home was occupied at the time and the residents were alerted by smoke detectors sounding in the home,” a news release states.
The home had working smoke detectors, which Stephany credited for alerting the family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
