Milwaukee Brewers
There seems to be no slowing down the Milwaukee Brewers. In the opener of a critical three game series against the team trying to chase them down in the National League Central Division race, the Brewers jumped all over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, scoring four runs in the first inning on their way to a 6-2 victory, the ninth straight for the hottest team in baseball. Christian Yelich hit the third pitch of the game from Jamison Taillon over the left field wall for a quick 1-0 lead. After a fielding blunder kept the rally alive, Rowdy Tellez delivered a sacrifice fly and Mark Canha capped the rally with a 436 foot, two run bomb. Milwaukee starter Wade Miley gave up a solo homer to Ian Happ in the bottom of the first but the Brewers got the run right back on a William Contreras RBI single in the top of the second. Patrick Wisdom hit his 21st of the year, with nobody on base, cutting Milwaukee’s lead to 5-2 in the 5th. Miley would finish after six innings, giving up just the two runs on four hits. Willy Adames came through with a two out, RBI double in the 7th to close out the scoring as the Milwaukee bullpen finished it off. Elvis Peguero, Joel Payamps and Hoby Milner allowed just one hit over the final three innings. The Brewers have soared to the top of the division with a 74-57 record and are now five full games in front of the Cubs. Corbin Burnes will take the mound in game two against Chicago’s 14 game winner Justin Steele. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM with a 7:05 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
