ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 24-year-old Ashwaubenon man is in custody after fleeing a domestic violence dispute, leading to a vehicle standoff with police hours later.
Clint Beguhn, patrol captain with the Green Bay Police Department, said officers responded to a domestic violence incident around 8 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Jackson Street in Green Bay.
The victim, a 23-year-old Green Bay woman, had sustained injuries that required treatment at a local hospital. However, the suspect was gone.
Beguhn said during the day, police learned information about where the suspect might be and were able to locate him in a vehicle. Police attempted a traffic stop around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Lombardi Avenue and Marlee Lane, but the suspect remained inside the car.
Beguhn said the suspect had made comments that he was “going to shoot it out with police or die by suicide.” As a result, police surrounded the vehicle and closed down the nearby roads to protect the public’s safety.
SWAT units and crisis negotiators were brought in to assist and the standoff ended just before 7 p.m., when the suspect got out of the vehicle and surrendered to police.
Beguhn said the man will face numerous charges, including substantial battery to an unborn child, battery, felony bail jumping, and disorderly conduct.
He did not confirm if the suspect was armed.
Upon pulling up to the intersection of Lombardi and Marlee, his vehicle was pulled over by authorities who had their guns drawn, and the driver was ordered out of the car.
