GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Students may be eager to start the new school year, but will there be enough bus drivers to take them there?
Official’s with Lamers Bus Lines say they’re about 3/4 fully staffed with school bus drivers, and they’ll likely spend the first few weeks filling in gaps with substitute drivers, office staff, and mechanics driving the busses.
Lamers Bus Lines is hiring school bus route drivers for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Lamers provides complete training, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction.
New drivers in the Green Bay area will earn $23 an hour; drivers with experience may earn more.
“We also offer a safety and attendance bonus, which is a monthly payout,” said Cindi Lawler with Lamers Bus Lines. “If you’re a two-time a day driver you can earn up to $270 a month, if you’re a one-time a day driver, either a.m. or p.m., it would be half of that.”
Lawler says other benefits of driving with Lamers include flexible hours, 401(k) program, and a child ride-along program for parents/grandparents who drive school bus routes; eliminating the need for day care.
All school districts across northeast Wisconsin are in need of drivers; learn more about bus driver positions at www.golamers.com.
