SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A person with warrants from Illinois was arrested after a chase in Shawano County.
Sheriff’s deputies say around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, they pulled over a vehicle going about 90 mph in a 65 mph zone on Highway 29. After a search of the vehicle turned up drug evidence and the driver verbally gave a false identity, deputies told him he would be taken to jail.
At that point, the driver sped off, leading deputies on a chase headed west on 29 for about 20 miles. It took a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle. The driver then got out and ran off. Deputies eventually found the driver in a wooded area and arrested him.
After identifying the driver, authorities determined there was a warrant for his arrest from Cook County, Illinois. Sheriff’s officials are recommending he be charged with fleeing, recklessly endangering safety and misappropriation of ID.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
