GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A grant is helping struggling women in Brown County get on the right path.
The Brown County Health and Human Services (HHS) presented a $77,503 check to Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin.
The grant is part of HHS’ grant awards from its 2023 allocation of the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help local non-profit organizations.
The grant will go toward the services provided within the organization’s Women’s Recovery Journey, an outpatient treatment program for women with addiction and/or mental health issues and their families.
“We know that often times women who struggle with substance use and abuse have histories of trauma and depression and anxiety and I think the unique thing of this program is that we are women specific so that now they’re in a safe place where they can actually talk about heal from their trauma alongside with finding ways to recover from their alcohol and other drug use,” said president and CEO of Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin, Lois Mischler.
Some of the grant money will go toward an on-site child care center, so that when women are receiving treatment, they have a safe place to bring their children.
