DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — Birder Players in De Pere are warming up and getting ready for the 24-Hour Play Festival.
The festival will feature an array of original short plays that are written, rehearsed, and performed within a 24-hour timeframe. Local writers, directors, and actors will come together to showcase their talent and creativity.
The 24-Hour Play Festival will kick off on Friday, August 4, at 7 p.m. at the Broadway Theatre in De Pere.
“On Friday night, the writers are given a prompt and they write a play overnight,” said event coordinator Kirt Graves. “Then on Saturday morning, the directors and actors come together and they rehearse it. Then on Saturday night we put on a show.”
This event will feature four, 10-minute plays performed one right after the next on Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m. at the Broadway Theatre, located at 123 S Broadway, De Pere.
Participants are going into the event already knowing if they’re a writer, director, or actor, but will not yet know the themes or groups they are working with until the festival begins Friday night.
Graves says this festival allows participation in theatre to be accessible for all kinds of thespians.
“It’s a short time commitment, and we take people at all experience levels,” said Graves. “There’s adults who have families and they just don’t have the time to do community theatre like they used to, so this is a way that we can invite them back into the theatre.”
Due to the spontaneous and immersive nature of the festival’s content, the event is recommended for adults only. The plays may encompass a wide range of themes and emotions.
